This made me tear up while reading. Maybe because I relate so much. Been in the country of a man for 3 months and while learning, observing and sometimes feeling confident to go do things myself there’s little close to the feeling of him being with me in the day. The casual access to a different world. Transferred respect. Also, your writing is so colorful. My fave line was about the red car lights passing the rainy window🩵🥹 Keep it up tallulabluuela✨✨✨✨🙌🏾
Thank you Elie, I LIVE for your stories and updates hehe. Observing your life from the outside, it is a palpable example of pure human connection and blending worlds together against all odds. Sending you all the loves 💫
"People speak to me as if I understand them, and I love them to think that I do." I love this, Tal.
I wonder if the desire to connect with each other is sometimes lost when we DO know each other's language. There's something really beautiful about listening with your ears, and eyes, even touch, and leaning in to try to understand when someone speaks to us in a language we don't know. It's like we really tune in, really listen... in hopes we might really catch what someone is trying to say to us.
Contrast that with the conversations we have every day with those speaking our native tongue, while we let our minds wander to every tangential thought that drifts by. Maybe that's just me. This makes me want to lean in.
I love your observation, language really is something we take for granted until we can no longer use it. Makes me want to be intentional with the way I use it too.
Your writing always takes me to where you are and fakes my senses into thinking I experienced it too! You've piqued my curiosity for seeing Japan even more, but experiencing it with a local is the way to connect on a deeper level:) What a sweet experience!
i, too have written about hakone and it is such a special and magical place! i loved reading your account of it 🤍
I think you are just so cool
🥹 love you Ant
